It might seem obvious that whichever deck one chooses when they begin to learn how to read tarot cards is the right deck for that person.

However, that may not be the case.

Too often, a beginning tarot cards reader will choose a deck simply because there are so many tarot cards decks to choose from they become frustrated and make an impulse buy just so they can, theoretically, start reading right away.

This circumstance is not the best choice in that the more you “bond” with your tarot cards the better reader you will become.

A deck you lose passion for will create a weak bond between you and your cards and that weak bond creates readings which are inaccurate and surface at best. At worst, the reading will be so far off the mark it might be detrimental to both the reader (you) and the sitter (person whom you are reading for).

So how, then, can one determine which is the best choice of tarot cards decks for him/her?

One approach is to ask yourself why you want to learn how to read tarot cards.

Do you want to learn how to read tarot cards for yourself? Do you want to learn how to read tarot cards for your family and friends? Do you want to learn how to read tarot cards so you can practice professionally?

If you are choosing to learn how to read tarot cards so you can gain additional perspective about persons and events in your life, you may want to consider a deck of oracle cards rather than tarot cards.

But should you be choosing to learn how to read tarot cards so that you may perform readings for family and friends perhaps spend a bit of time researching the symbols on several different decks which, initially, appeal to you.

Commit some time to reviewing the history and symbolic meanings of the images/artwork used on the tarot cards decks you’re interested in.

If, when learning the history and symbolic meanings of the tarot cards, you find you are compelled to spend more time investigating one deck over the others, chances are, that is the deck for you.

All tarot cards decks have numbers on the individual cards so, as you learn how to read tarot cards you’ll want to spend some time learning a bit of numerology so you can incorporate the information in your readings.

Since all tarot cards decks use the same basic numbers that knowledge will help you no matter which tarot cards deck you choose.

Also, color plays an important part of the divination process. Allow yourself to explore the symbolic meaning of all the colors of the rainbow so that, along with all the other knowledge you gather, your readings may be as accurate and in depth as possible.
